Install Herdr on the computer

Herdr is the terminal workspace where your coding agents live. Firebrik Terminal attaches to it, so the machine must be running Herdr whenever you want to connect.

Install and start it

terminal
curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh
herdr

The first herdr starts a server in the background and opens the client. The server keeps your agent terminals alive after you close the window, so you can start Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI in a pane, close the laptop lid later, and still find them running from your phone.

Check it is running

terminal
herdr status server

You should see the server reported as running, with its version. Firebrik Terminal reports the same version when it connects.

After a reboot, run herdr once more. Without the server the app says "Herdr is not reachable" and keeps retrying until it is.

Start an agent in a pane

Open a pane in Herdr and start the agent you use, for example claude, codex or gemini, inside the project you are working on. Herdr recognises these agents and reports when one is working, idle or waiting for you. That state is what the phone turns into a notification later.
