Install the app
Install Firebrik Terminal from Google Play and open it. First-time setup shows the server form. No Firebrik account is needed.
1 · Server
Give it a name, then enter Host or Tailscale IP (the address or Tailscale name from the previous step), Port 22, and your Username on the computer (whoami prints it). Leave Run on connect as herdr, which attaches your Herdr session.
2 · This device's key
Tap Generate key. The key is created on the phone, in the Android Keystore, and the private part never leaves it.
Authorise it on the computer
This is the "3 · Authorise it on the host" part of the form, and you do it once per computer. Either:
- type your SSH password in SSH password (one time) and tap Install key. The app adds the key to
~/.ssh/authorized_keysover SSH, says so under the button, and does not keep the password; or - tap Copy (or Share) next to the public key and add it yourself on the computer:
mkdir -p ~/.ssh && chmod 700 ~/.ssh echo "<paste the key here>" >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
Use the second way when the computer refuses password logins.
Test, then connect
Tap Test. The app answers "Key accepted by you@my-laptop (herdr 0.9.x)" or tells you what failed. Then tap Save & connect. Turn on Connect when the app opens if you want later launches to connect by themselves.
The first connection pins the computer's host key. If the computer is reinstalled later, the app stops with "host key changed" until you choose Forget pinned host key in that server's settings.
On a second phone or tablet
Sign in with Google in Settings to bring the same server list to another device (optional). Each device still has its own key: the first time it connects, the app asks Add this device's SSH key to …? Tap Yes, add it and type the password once, or copy the command it shows, run it on the computer, and tap Try again.
